Project background  As part of our Open Science team, you will support us in developing efficient data cleaning & extraction processes, comprehensible visualizations, and curated data publications.  Job description  Your efforts will support ongoing projects, including:    Update of raw data extraction for a scientific publication. Source   Data extraction from PDF documents to compile metadata of projects funded under ETH Board Open Research Data (ORD) program   Contribute to data packages generated by openwashdata community   Contribute to R data publication packages washr and fairenough     Profile    You care about data and code being concise and easily reusable  You know how to use standard data science tools (Git, GitHub, R, Python, RStudio IDE, VS Code)  You know your way around the collection of R Tidyverse packages, and you are a competent practitioner in solving problems as outlined in the book R for Data Science   You stay up-to-date on the latest technical developments for Large Language Models (LLMs) and their use in academia     Requirements:     You hold a BSc degree  You have a valid work permit for Switzerland. After the formulation of an initial mission baseline description, mission requirements, and recent successes with the ETH-owned laboratory testbed, the completion of a full mission concept study is of highest priority. The mission concept study will finalize the required satellite architecture, conduct key technical trades, and finalize the overall mission development plan and implementation strategy to drive the LIFE Space Mission to successful launch and operations. To support the mission concept study, we opened two positions in Optical Engineering.  Project background  LIFE brings together scientists, engineers, and communicators united by curiosity and the pursuit of life beyond our Solar System. Project background  The objective of this initiative is to establish and grow a centralized pool of space engineering expertise within ETH Zurich | Space. Job description  As part of the specialized resource pool, you will provide avionics engineering expertise across multiple space research projects at ETH Zurich. Working closely with scientists, systems engineers, and external partners, you will contribute to the design, development, integration, and verification of spacecraft avionics systems.  As part of your role, you will:    Take technical ownership of spacecraft avionics subsystems, acting as the primary technical authority for onboard computing and data handling within the assigned project scope  Design and develop spacecraft avionics architectures, including onboard computers, data handling systems, communication buses, and power interfaces  Translate mission and payload needs into avionics requirements, specifications, and interface control documents (ICDs)  Perform avionics hardware–software integration, including embedded flight software, firmware, and real-time systems  Conduct and/or lead avionics trade studies, balancing performance, reliability, power, mass, and technology readiness  Support assembly, integration, and test (AIT) activities for avionics subsystems and system-level testing  Develop and execute avionics test procedures, including functional testing and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing  Support anomaly investigation, non-conformance management, and participation in review boards  Contribute to system-level documentation and design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR)  Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including academic partners, industry suppliers, and space agencies  Support proposal preparation, technology development activities, and early-stage mission concepts    Profile  You have a strong technical background in spacecraft avionics and embedded systems, combined with the ability to work across multiple projects in a collaborative academic environment.
