Your role will involve troubleshooting complex system-wide issues, optimising storage architectures for demanding workloads such as HPC and AI/ML, and continuously improving automation, deployment, and observability; aligned with modern DevOps practices.\nLeveraging strong Linux expertise andsystems programming skills (e.g., C/C++, Go, or Rust)you will help evolve the distributed storage technology, while maintaining robust, scalable and secure systems.\nYour responsibilities\n•\nCo-lead management and operations of distributed disk storage, block, object and filesystem services based on mainstream open-source technologies (Ceph, NFS).\n•\nParticipate in the evolution of architecture and design of storage services for CERN cloud and compute infrastructure, as well as core business applications (physics data processing, ML/AI, HPC use-cases).\n•\nIntegrate, troubleshoot and maintain distributed disk storage systems at scale, across multiple availability zones and data centres.\n•\nContribute to documentation, development, optimisation and further automation of storage services.\nStill here?\nLet’s make a quick check about\nYour profile\n•\nDeep understanding of Linux and architecture of storage and filesystems (e.g. NFS, CephFS), including high availability and failure-domain.\n•\nKnowledge of POSIX permissions model, POSIX ACLs and inheritance, and authentication/\nauthorisation concepts (CephX, Kerberos for NFS).\n•\nProficiency in at least one systems programming language, ideally C/C++, or other high-performance language (e.g. Rust, Golang).\n•\nGood knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. Python, shell) to automate deployment and testing is also required.\nYour skills\n•\nFamiliarity with NFS-Ganesha.\n•\nFamiliarity with rsync/rclone, snapshots, snapshot-based and incremental replication and filesystem-\nnative migration tooling.\n•\nFamiliarity with inotify for change tracking, bind mounts, and Linux VFS semantics.\n•\nDesign of storage systems.\nIdeal start date:\n01/08/2026\nContract duration (in months):\n60\nGrade range:\n6\nBenchmark job:\n200020 - Computing Engineer\nJob flexibility:\nHybrid\nEmployment conditions\n•\nStand-by duty, when required by the needs of the Organization.\n•\nWork during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.\nGlobal Benefits\nat CERN\n•\nA minimum entry-salary of 9236 Swiss Francs per month (tax free), increasing in line with your years of relevant parcours professionnel.\n•\n30 days of paid leave per year plus 2 weeks annual closure.\n•\nCoverage by CERN’s comprehensive health insurance scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.\n•\nFamily, child and infant monthly allowances depending on your individual circumstances.\n•\nA relocation package (installation grant, removal, travel expenses) depending on your individual circumstances.\n•\nPossibility to extend your contract up to 8 years + eligibility for indefinite contract tenure.\nLet’s get you\nready\nBe sure to meet th",
