Whether working on engineering or GMP compliance projects, you will take a leading role in the design and delivery of Clean Utilities systems for clients in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. From concept development through detailed design and project execution, you will provide technical leadership, coordinate project teams, and ensure high-quality project delivery within scope, schedule, and budget. As a subject matter expert, you will contribute to technical excellence, innovation, and knowledge sharing across multiple projects.
Lead Designer Clean Utilities (m/f/d)
Explore your tasks and responsibilities
Define customer requirements, including media consumption strategies in GMP-regulated environments
Design and develop Clean Utilities systems, including:
Purified Water (PW)
Water for Injection (WFI)
Clean Steam
Process gases and chemical distribution systems
Process wastewater systems
Develop innovative and sustainable technical solutions for complex projects
Prepare specifications, design documents, system layouts, routing concepts, cost estimates, and project schedules
Lead the detailed design of utility systems and related equipment
Coordinate and guide a team of 3 to 5 Utilities Engineers and Designers
Ensure engineering deliverables meet quality standards, project timelines, and budget requirements
Review and approve technical documentation and design packages
Coordinate suppliers and support engineering, procurement, and construction activities
Support commissioning, qualification, and acceptance of systems
Actively participate in cross-project knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives
Act as the lead technical expert for Clean Utilities within multidisciplinary project teams
Show your expertise
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related discipline
Minimum 8 years of professional experience in the design and engineering of Clean Utilities systems, preferably within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
Extensive knowledge of Clean Utilities systems, including PW, WFI, Clean Steam, process gases, and related distribution systems
Knowledge of process wastewater systems is highly desirable
Proven experience leading engineering teams and coordinating technical project activities
Strong understanding of GMP requirements and industry standards
Experience managing technical quality, project schedules, and budgets
Strong knowledge of MS Office; CAD and 3D design software experience is an advantage
Fluency in English (minimum B2 level) is required
German language skills at C1 level are required; French is a plus
Willingness to travel on a project basis within Switzerland
