University Guidance Counsellor - North America
Part-time - 32 Hours
Position Overview
The University Guidance Counsellor supports students pursuing higher education in North American universities and US style programs in Europe.
The counsellor provides comprehensive university guidance to students in Years 10-13, supporting subject selection, competitive applications, and successful transitions to post-secondary education.
The role emphasizes individualized guidance, workshops, structured programming, family engagement, and close collaboration with faculty.
Key Responsibilities
Provide proactive one-to-one university and career counselling for students in Years 12-13.
Guide secondary students through subject selection and academic planning aligned with U.
S. and Canadian university expectations.
Provide clear and accurate university admissions information through:
Year 12 university guidance kickoff workshops (online and in person)Year 13 application process, deadlines, and transition to university sessions
Support Year 12 and 13 students through the full university application cycle.
Write and manage student references and ensure the timely submission.
Lead information sessions for students and parents, for example, online, during Mentor period, Coffee Mornings and providing updates in the Guidance newsletter.
Organize and host university visits and maintain the university visit calendar.
Collaborate with counsellors, faculty, and academic leadership to support student applications and academic alignment.
Maintain communication with families throughout the admissions process.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of U.
S. and Canadian admissions practices, particularly as they apply to universities operating in Europe.
Attend professional development conferences, university visits, and training sessions.
Share admissions updates and best practices with the counselling team and key stakeholders.
Candidate requirements
Experience in U.
S. and/or Canadian university counselling in an international school context.
Familiarity with Common App, institutional portals, and holistic admissions processes.
Strong written communication skills, particularly for student recommendations.
Knowledge of alternative international post-secondary pathways (including gap years, foundation programs, and direct-entry options) would be an asset.
Holder of a Swiss work permit or EU passport.
