Zurich Instruments is a technology leader in advanced test and measurement instruments and in control electronics for quantum computing. Our products are used in many challenging research fields by scientists all over the world and by leading high-tech companies worldwide. We help advance science and build the next generation of quantum computers.

Do you want to shape the mechanical architecture of quantum control systems that scale to hundreds or thousands of qubits? Do you love taking products from whiteboard to production—DFM/DFA, drawings, and vendor ramp? Can you independently plan, prototype, validate, and release hardware while keeping stakeholders aligned? Are you excited to be the first Mechanical Engineer in a world-class Electrical Hardware team?

This is your chance to join our high-quality R&D team in Zurich as a Mechanical Design Engineer.

Your responsibilities:

  • Mechanical design and drafting for electronics products, including sheet metal, machined parts, and 3D printed components.
  • Create and maintain technical and assembly drawings for internal and external manufacturing.
  • Develop and maintain standard parts libraries and mechanical master data.
  • Work in close collaboration with electrical engineers to master thermal challenges, ensuring the mechanical design seamlessly integrates with all system components.
  • Responsible for sustaining engineering of the existing product portfolio, managing mechanical design updates and lifecycle changes.
  • Support prototype assembly and testing.
  • Manage external suppliers for mechanical parts and ensure timely delivery.

Your profile:

  • Mechanical Engineer (BSc) or Mechanical Design Technician (HF / vocational)
  • At least 3 years of practical experience in mechanical design for electronic devices.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD SolidWorks. Experience in PDM and ERP integration. (CSWP+SM certification is a plus)
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes (sheet metal bending, CNC machining, powder coating, etc.).
  • Ability to produce clear, manufacturable drawings and assembly instructions.
  • Handling initial handover to external manufacturers.
  • Familiarity with thermal management solutions and RF shielding is a plus.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Professional fluency in German is required to support business operations.

We offer a diverse work environment with an open and transparent company culture where personal development forms the basis of our success. We thrive on cooperation and support distributed decision-making that allows everyone to take responsibility and generate substantial impact from the start and on many levels.

Now is a great time to join the team.
