The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (SSP) of the University of Lausanne is seeking to recruit an:
Associate Professor or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor for an Associate Professorship in Education through sport in social sciences at the Institute of Sports Sciences
Starting date:
1 August 2027 or to be agreed

Contract term:
Associate Professor: 6 years renewable, Tenure-Track Assistant Professor: 2 years renewable 2x2 years. An evaluation procedure for tenure as an Associate Professor will take place after 4 years in post (

The Institute of Sports Sciences (ISSUL)
is UNIL’s main centre for teaching and research in the interdisciplinary field of sports sciences. It combines experts in human and social sciences (history, psychology, management and sociology) and life sciences (physiology, biomechanics, medicine and molecular biology) in the heart of the Olympic capital.
Main responsibilities:
Teaching (45%)
Six hours a week of teaching throughout the year in French:
A release from two hours’ weekly teaching / year will be granted during the pre-tenure period in the case of recruitment of a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor.
The post-holder will supervise Master’s dissertations and PhD theses.
Research (45%)
The post-holder will pursue their own research in the field of Education through sport (with a disciplinary orientation towards the social sciences). Given the needs of the institute, profiles with a background in psychology are not a priority/expected. The post-holder will be expected to produce international-level research publications. It is expected that the post-holder will be affiliated to one of the research centres in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences and work within the Institute of Sports Sciences (ISSUL).
They will also seek external funding, in particular from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
Administrative responsibilities (10%)
Pursuant to Rectorate Directive 1.13, members of teaching staff are required to take on administrative tasks within their Department, Faculty and the University. For the Faculty, these tasks involve sitting on committees and decision-making or representation bodies.
Profile required
•
PhD in sports sciences, social sciences or equivalent qualification;
•
Academic teaching experience;
•
Proven research record in the field of Education through sport with a disciplinary orientation towards the social sciences;
•
Excellent links with international academic networks;
•
Ability to attract external research funding;
•
Proficiency in French and English, orally and in writing;
•
Ability to teach in French within two years.
