For our High Performance Computing and Emerging Technologies group within the Science IT, Infrastructure and Services department we are looking for a
Scientific Computing Systems Engineer
Your tasks
Serve as the main systems engineer for PSI's WLCG Tier-3 cluster computing infrastructure supporting the CERN CMS experiment
Operate, maintain, and improve Linux-based research-computing services and infrastructure
Support and interact with the Swiss CMS computing user community using the Tier-3 infrastructure
Collaborate with the national WLCG Tier-2 center operated by the Swiss National Supercomputing Center CSCS
contribute to the shared operational responsibilities and mutual backup within our HPC/HTC services for PSI
Contribute to the planning and evolution of future Tier-3 and Tier-2 infrastructure and services in preparation for the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) era
Your profile
Strong expertise in Linux systems administration within production or research-computing environments
Experience with automation and DevOps practices, including configuration management tools such as Ansible or Puppet, scripting in Bash and Python, Git-based workflows, and preferably CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code concepts
Experience with monitoring, troubleshooting, and debugging complex system and software issues in production environments
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
Familiarity with batch systems, distributed computing infrastructure, container technologies, or high-throughput computing environments is advantageous
Familiarity with WLCG infrastructure and services or scientific computing environments is a plus
