Do you want to dive in the fast-growing industry of drones and get a rewarding experience in a dynamic scale-up environment?
At Flyability, we believe that robots should be sent into hazardous places and dangerous environments instead of humans. To support our belief, we created Elios, the world’s first collision-tolerant flying robot that can safely enter, survey, and inspect confined spaces so that people don’t have to. With more than 130 employees, Flyability is the pioneer in the UAS indoor inspection industry. Joining Flyability is not just taking on a new job; it is seizing the opportunity to improve the lives of millions of people and contribute to the future of robotics.
To complete our creative and dynamic team in Lausanne, we are seeking a
Sensor Systems Engineer (100%)
Starting date: as soon as possible
Your role:
We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Sensor Systems Engineer to join our Hardware team and contribute to the development of advanced sensor suites for drones. While a significant portion of your work will focus on multi-camera systems and embedded vision platforms, you will also play a key part in selecting and integrating other vital sensor systems—such as lidars, IMUs, barometers, and GNSS.
You will work on the full sensor development pipeline, from sensor and lens selection to Linux integration, timing synchronization, calibration, aging validation, debugging, and system validation. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across optics, embedded systems, general sensor hardware, and software, and who is comfortable operating in a fast-moving R&D environment with significant technical ownership. In this role, you will collaborate closely with firmware, hardware, mechanical, and software teams during integration and validation to ensure optimal sensor performance.
What you will own:

Designing and developing embedded sensor systems—including cameras, lidars, IMUs, barometers, magnetometers, and GNSS—for drone and robotic platforms.

Identifying the most suitable sensors based on project requirements and participating in the architecture of multiple sensor designs and integrations.

Evaluating and selecting image sensors, optics, lenses, and related components, while also optimizing sensor settings and positioning through prototypes and simulation.

Developing and debugging low-level sensor configuration and bring-up  on embedded Linux platforms, including sensor register configuration, clock and timing settings.

Developing, tuning, and validating ISP (Image Signal Processing) pipelines.

Performing and supporting comprehensive calibration activities: geometric calibration, lens distortion calibration, multi-camera alignment.

Defining and executing aging validation, environmental testing (operating temperature, shocks), vibration analysis and performance optimization across the sensor stack.
Your profile:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.

5–10 years of parcours professionnel in sensor systems, computer vision, embedded imaging, or related fields.

Previous experience in diverse sensor technologies (cameras, lidars, radars, IMUs), sensor fusion, and performance evaluation for robotics.

Strong understanding of digital imaging systems and camera architecture, with parcours professionnel in CMOS image sensors, optics, and lens selection.

Good understanding of ISP pipelines, exposure, gain, white balance, and image quality concepts, alongside sensor timing and camera interfaces.

Experience working with embedded platforms, low-level debugging, and camera/sensor bring-up.

Experience in hardware design, multi-sensor systems, and drone/robotics/aerospace platforms.

Proficient in C/C++ and Python (Rust is a plus), with familiarity in GStreamer

Familiarity with Qualcomm, NVIDIA, or similar embedded vision platforms.

Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work autonomously on complex systems.

Professional working proficiency in English; French or additional languages are an asset
